Petclav is stable in the presence of gastric acid and is not significantly influenced by gastric or intestinal contents. The two components are rapidly absorbed, resulting in amoxicillin and clavulanic acid concentrations in serum, urine, and tissue similar to those produced when each is administered alone.
Petclav diffuses readily into most body tissues and fluids, with the exception of the brain and spinal fluid, which amoxicillin penetrates adequately when meninges are inflamed.
Petclav combines the distinctive properties of a broad-spectrum antibiotic and a beta-lactamase inhibitor to effectively extend the antibacterial spectrum of amoxicillin to include beta-lactamase-producing aerobic and anaerobic organisms.
Petclav has been shown to have broad-spectrum activity, including beta-lactamase-producing strains of both Gram-negative and Gram-positive aerobes, facultative anaerobes, and obligate anaerobes.
Petclav is orally administered to effectively treat:
Skin infections
Periodontal infections
Urinary tract infections
